My Honda Integra Type-R : Brakes

Well basically, these were replaced due to the fact that Honda brakes are crap: I warped the front discs twice with just normal road driving.

I decided to go with a known entity for the pads ... EBC Green Stuff as they performed very well on the track with the Renault 5 GT Turbo. I decided to also try EBC for their discs, opting for the cross-drilled and grooved variants.

As it turns out, they are supplied as plain discs, but an engineering firm did the machining required.

So, here is a comparison of old and new:

You may notice the asymmetrical hole pattern, that's because these discs have an odd number of cooling fins, meaning that a symmetrical pattern could not be machined.

There were the normal problems changing the discs: screws being too tight and the nearside disc not wanting to come off. However job is done and this is what they look like:

As you can see, the Green Stuff pads really are green!

Once the wheel is on, this is what is seen (writing on the tyre is because it's new):

The brakes were fantastic after they were bedded in, however eventually suffered minor warp-age (no where near as bad as the standard Honda ones though). I think there's just not enough air getting into the brakes to cool them down.

DOT 5.1 was also been put into the braking system as the normal DOT 4 is too easy to boil, even on the road.

I eventually switched to EBC Red Stuff pads as I was getting some brake fade from the green. They are even better than the Green Stuff!
